Plasterboard is fitted over insulation on the inside face of the wall, then plastered and finished. It's disruptive in the rooms being worked on, so your installer will tell you what to move before the start date.

Like external wall insulation, this isn't available for stone or solid brick homes. The SEAI survey decides whether internal lining is the right system for your house.

For qualifying households under Warmer Homes, the work is fully funded. You don't pay for the materials or the labour.

Who it's for

  • Homes where cavity or external insulation isn't suitable
  • Owner-occupied houses built before 2006, on a qualifying payment
  • Walls that aren't stone or solid brick

What to expect

  • Rooms being lined need to be cleared before work starts
  • Plasterboard, plaster and a finished surface on those walls
  • A few days to a few weeks, depending on how many walls are done

Worth knowing. Not available for stone or solid brick homes.

You'll still need to meet the scheme rules. Check if you qualify before you apply.
