Attic Insulation
Heat rises. A properly insulated attic is one of the simplest ways to keep it in the house. We insulate to 300mm, and we cover the tank, pipes and hatch as part of the same job.

Attic insulation is fully funded for qualifying owner-occupiers on the Warmer Homes Scheme. It's often recommended even when wall insulation isn't possible, including some stone or solid brick homes.
The job includes quilt or similar insulation to 300mm depth, a tank jacket, pipe insulation, and an insulated attic hatch. You don't need to source those extras yourself.
Dormer attics aren't covered by this measure. If you're not sure what attic you have, say so when you get in touch. The survey will confirm it.
Who it's for
- Homes with a standard attic space, not a dormer
- Owner-occupied houses built before 2006, on a qualifying payment
- Stone or solid brick homes that can't take wall insulation
What to expect
- Insulation laid to 300mm across the attic floor
- Tank jacket, pipe insulation and an insulated hatch included
- Usually a short visit compared with wall insulation
Worth knowing. Not available for dormer attics.
You'll still need to meet the scheme rules. Check if you qualify before you apply.
Questions
People also ask
Can I apply if my house is stone or solid brick?
Stone or solid brick homes can't receive wall insulation, but they may still qualify for attic insulation and other measures.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the work involved. Cavity wall insulation is often completed in a day. External or internal wall insulation can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
What happens during the home survey?
Once your application is submitted, SEAI arranges a survey of your home to confirm exactly which measures you qualify for. It's carried out on their behalf, at no cost to you.
