Cavity wall insulation is one of the core measures on the Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme. It's fully funded for qualifying owner-occupiers. There's no bill at the end.

An NSAI-approved installer drills small holes in the outer leaf, pumps bead into the cavity, then makes good the holes. You stay in the house while the work is done.

What you get still depends on the SEAI home survey. If your walls aren't suitable for cavity fill, the survey may point to attic work, ventilation or another wall system instead.

Who it's for

  • Homes with a clear wall cavity
  • Owner-occupied houses built before 2006
  • Households on a qualifying social welfare payment

What to expect

  • A survey confirms the cavity is suitable before anyone drills
  • Work is usually completed in a day
  • Small holes are filled and finished after the bead is in

You'll still need to meet the scheme rules. Check if you qualify before you apply.

Questions

People also ask

How long does installation take?

It depends on the work involved. Cavity wall insulation is often completed in a day. External or internal wall insulation can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

What happens during the home survey?

Once your application is submitted, SEAI arranges a survey of your home to confirm exactly which measures you qualify for. It's carried out on their behalf, at no cost to you.

What measures are covered?

We install cavity wall, internal wall, external wall and attic insulation, plus ventilation. Windows, heat pumps and solar PV are sometimes included where a survey shows they're needed, alongside other approved works.

Could you get cavity wall insulation funded?

For qualifying households on Warmer Homes, the approved works are 100% free. There's no bill from us.
