This is a deeper measure. Midland Warmer Homes has been approved to install it since 2018, where the SEAI survey supports it. For qualifying households it's still 100% free.

The system is fitted to the outer walls, then rendered and painted so the house is weather-tight again. Scaffolding is usually needed. Timing depends on the size of the house and the weather.

Stone and solid brick homes can't take this system. If that's your house, attic insulation and other measures may still be available.

Who it's for

  • Homes where cavity fill isn't possible or isn't enough
  • Owner-occupied houses built before 2006, on a qualifying payment
  • Walls that aren't stone or solid brick

What to expect

  • A few days to a few weeks on site, depending on the property
  • Scaffolding and access around the outside of the house
  • A rendered, painted finish once the boards are on

Worth knowing. Not available for stone or solid brick homes.

You'll still need to meet the scheme rules. Check if you qualify before you apply.

Questions

People also ask

How long does installation take?

It depends on the work involved. Cavity wall insulation is often completed in a day. External or internal wall insulation can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

Can I apply if my house is stone or solid brick?

Stone or solid brick homes can't receive wall insulation, but they may still qualify for attic insulation and other measures.

What happens during the home survey?

Once your application is submitted, SEAI arranges a survey of your home to confirm exactly which measures you qualify for. It's carried out on their behalf, at no cost to you.

Could you get external wall insulation funded?

For qualifying households on Warmer Homes, the approved works are 100% free. There's no bill from us.
